Tuesday Tastings at Tamba is in full swing again after the Ramadan break. Held the last Tuesday of every month, Tuesday tastings continue Tamba's left of centre approach to everything. The concept changes the way we look at wine dinners and guests realise now there are alternative ways to enjoy beautiful and affordable wine, other than at a traditional wine dinner.
On this occasion, we celebrated wines from New Zealand, Jackson Estate and surprise surprise - there was no Sauvignon Blanc, which shows that New Zealand is a lot more than these lovely wines. Tuesday tastings allow guests to discover wines that are very accessible to them - I loved this about the evening. Anyone can create an evening like this with high end wines that you and me will never see on the streets. We want to be able to walk into a store and pick up a bottle of wine for 70-100AED and tonight we had exactly that.
I will mention just one of the wines because it was so unexpected - the Chardonnay. It had some fruity and fresh elements we have come to associate with Sauvignon Blancs, while retaining key qualities of a Chardonnay. Served with a few ice cubes, I really enjoyed it. It was not so much what the ice did to the wine as it was about an experience that took me back to South Africa, where it is quite common to enjoy a white with some ice. Memories. Connections. wine. Tamba.
A 2 hour tasting, complemented by Tamba's signature canapes is not a bad way to spend an evening. This evening really offers wine lovers a chance to connect with similar minded people where it is all about the ambience at Tamba, where we all stand around the bar drinking wine and just doing something that is so forgotten these days - conversing.
Tuesday tastings is one of those events that should be marked in your calendar. Not only does it come in at a fraction of the cost of a wine dinner, it also allows you to really get to know the wines because the pourings are pretty much unlimited. And with capacity blocked at around 40, it turns out to be a pretty intimate affair.
The next event is on the 29th August and features wine from my beautiful country, South Africa.
