Teatro again - Park Rotana, Abu Dhabi

On my second visit to Teatro, I was curious to see how their Far Eastern menu items held up. In a previous post, I noted how varied the menu was and that there was somewhat of a lack of focus, trying to be everything to everyone. (http://bit.ly/ToSPTm ). However, while I maintain that the menu needs streamlining, on this visit I wanted to try some of those East Asian dishes on their menu.

I started off with the Buffalo mozzarella salad, a dish similar to what I had the last time. It was bright and colourful, with one of my favourite ingredients, beetroot, prominent on the plate. Tomatoes, red and yellow brought a hint of sweetness to bear on the salad. Also, the mozzarella and pesto provided a dash of contrasting colour and taste. Finally, balsamic, nicely proportioned, rounded off the dish. The chunky pieces of beetroot were beautiful indeed. In short, a wonderful dish of goodness and freshness.

Next up, my guest and I had a sushi and sashimi platter. What I liked about the options is that they are varied, so depending on the size of your group, the sushi platter can be customised accordingly.  Chef's selection of  Sushi and sashimi moriwase was very good indeed. The rice was cooked just right while the tuna and salmon in particular smacked of freshness. Presentation wise, well, look at the picture!

For my main course I had the Teatro Special Peking duck, or Beijing duck as you may know it. The secret for me is the crispy skin with the soft duck underneath - this was achieved by the chef. I would definitely have the duck again. As someone who lived in China for 3 years, I could appreciate chef's hand in this dish.

Teatro has an extensive wine list that offers tremendous value. I saw some choice labels on the wine list that are cheaper than many other outlets' in Abu Dhabi. The NV Moet Chandon Brut,  for example, is at 390AED, the best price I have come across for this reliable and iconic champagne. On the night though, I had the Wild Rock Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from New Zealand - a refreshing, easy drinking and classic sauvignon blanc.

Finally, for dessert I chose something sweet - the Baked Hawaiian - which consisted of coconut and mango ice cream, toasted meringue and lilikoi coulis. I loved, especially, the texture in that meringue and the surprise underneath. The berries brought a lovely tang to the dessert to balance the sweetness. A good choice.

Teatro is a cool, stylish and relaxing restaurant with a menu that is bound to offer something to anyone who visits. However, having tried the restaurant twice now, I believe the Asian selections bring an a depth to the menu as well as that wow factor. The sushi on offer is of the best I have tried in Abu Dhabi. You should try it too!
